Carboxy betaine group, in fact, represents betaine, a glycine-modified amino acid composed of three methyl groups that is used as a methyl donor in several metabolic pathways, which is used to treat rare genetic causes of homocysteinuria. Betaine is limited to clinical use only and is not associated with increased serum enzymes during treatment or obvious liver damage.

Water-free betaine is in the form of trimethyl glycine. That is, there are three groups of methyl or CH3 and the amino acid glycine in its structure. It is the presence of these methyl groups that has given special importance to this substance. On the other hand, because there is glycine amino acid in the structure of betaine, the molecule has a bipolar structure. That is, it has both a positive and a negative charge.

Betaine is widely used in personal care products and cleansers as a foaming and cleansing agent. For example, in detergents, surface cleaners of this product are very popular due to its high power in washing and suspending particles and masses, and it has a good resistance against the manufacturers and builders of detergents, electrolytes, and acidic parts. It is used in bath products and body care products such as liquid soaps, body washes, gels and bath floors and baby care products, as well as in hair care products such as shampoos and conditioners, etc.
